The Chess in the Library (CITL) organization recognizes the importance of the privacy of individuals. CITL aspires to collect and manage your personal information in a manner that is respectful of the rights of individuals that exist under the Privacy Act (R.S.C. 1985, c. P-21).
Collection of Information
1. When you visit the Chess in the Library website (www.chessinthelibrary.com), your personal information will not be collected unless you choose to participate in any of our activities (including tournaments), use the volunteer application, use another similar application or communicate with us at mail.chessinthelibrary@gmail.com.
2. Collection and storage of data for volunteer applications and other similar applications are kept confidential for the sender and will not be used for any purpose other than volunteer screening and selection.
3. Information collected from feedback such as the Contact Us form is kept confidential and will not be used for any purpose other than responding to the message. If you choose to contact CITL using your e-mail address or complete an online form, you may be asked to provide your name, e-mail, or other information. The purpose of collecting this information is for CITL to properly respond to you and the information will only be used for the purpose it was intended.
4. CITL collects information on visits to the site’s features such as the number of times a page is visited, what days the site receive more traffic, and the search engines that point to the site. All of this information is confidential and anonymous for the user and CITL only uses this information for statistical purposes.
5. For tournaments, CITL collects, holds and uses personal information for a number of purposes including:
- to register players for CITL’s chess tournaments and other chess activities;
- to maintain contact with, and respond to requests or questions by players and visitors;
- to notify players and visitors of the CITL’s upcoming chess tournaments and activities;
- to publish online player registrations and results for CITL’s tournaments;
- for administrative purposes;
- to conduct surveys and for seeking feedback;
- to meet any regulatory obligations; or
- for any other purposes related to CITL’s activities.
If you do not provide CITL with the personal information requested, CITL may not be able to complete or fulfill the purpose for which such information was collected. In particular, failure to provide relevant personal information will result in either the failure of such tournaments to be rated by the Chess Federation of Canada (CFC) or the Chess and Math Association (CMA), or the exclusion of non-complying players from CFC-rated and CMA-rated tournaments.
The types of third parties to whom we may disclose your personal information include:
- various chess governing bodies, including the Chess and Math Association, the Chess Federation of Canada
- individuals acting for the purpose of organizing or arbitrating chess tournaments; or
- third-party operators of chess tournament organizing software
Media
CITL posts images of events and sessions that the organization hosts on the website for promotional and informational purposes. CITL does not benefit financially in any way from these images. If you appear in any of the images on the site and wish to remove the pictures, please e-mail us at mail.chessinthelibrary@gmail.com.
